New York Giants new additions off to a good start

Eli Manning seems to be enjoying his wide variety of targets
The optimism is alive in East Rutherford thus far as the New York Giants are two days into their 2017 training camp. The team has yet to strap on full pads, which has turned our focus more to the skill players and one-on-one matchups. The two new additions on our offense both got off to quick starts.
Rookie tight end Evan Engram and veteran wideout Brandon Marshall each connected with Eli Manning on their respective first plays on the field. Marshall’s reception lead the way as it was the first play during the 7 on 7 drill. Engram joined the party short there after. This of course, is not a story. Two pass catchers, catching passes. Nonetheless it is nice to see Eli connecting with the teams two new big targets. This is the time where the continuity and timing is built for a quarterback and his receivers.
Odell Beckham continued to do what he does on the field. He made life difficult for the Giants secondary and seemingly made Eli’s life easier by creating great separation on several different plays. Again, no story here, as this is what we expect from the Giants best player. For now, the team is doing just what it is supposed to. They look good, as most professionals do during team drills, that are not yet “live.” It appears that the first full pad practice will be on this coming Wednesday.

BJ Goodson is the man in the middle
On the defensive side of the ball a lot of attention was focused on BJ Goodson. He is expected to man the middle of the defense for the Giants this year. Yet another shift change at the middle linebacker job, but Goodson may have the goods to remain. By all appearances the second year player from Clemson has the teams full support and some expectations beginning to arise. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan highlighted Goodson’s speed on day two of camp.
"“I like the way B.J. Goodson moves at middle linebacker. There was one play during team drills when he ran with Shepard deep down the middle of the field. His feet seem light,” Raanan wrote.."
When drafted in 2016 Goodson was known more for his run stopping ability. It is exciting to see his athleticism come to light, albeit still the month of July. That said, July is ending in the coming days, and the month of August brings on pre-season action. The season is fast approaching and the Giants look to build on their first two days of camp with a strong third practice on Sunday. After that practice the team will take a day off before resuming action on Tuesday, the first of August.
