New York Giants: Reviewing Jerry Reese’s 2017 draft picks
By Henry Buggy
#2 – DT Dalvin Tomlinson (Second-Round, Pick No. 55)
Big Blue was in need of a defensive tackle after losing Johnathan Hankins in free agency during the offseason. Tomlinson has stepped in nicely for the Giants, starting all 11 games.
The 6-foot-3, 310-pound defensive tackle out of Alabama has struggled to stay consistent in his rookie season but has shown promise. Tomlinson recorded his first career sack against the Washington Redskins on Thanksgiving night and has amassed 30 combined tackles on the year.
While Tomlinson has proven himself a solid addition to New York’s defense, the question remains whether Big Blue could have potentially selected him later in the 2017 draft. NFL Network projected Tomlinson to be a third to fourth-round draft selection, and Big Blue missed out on running backs Alvin Kamara, Kareem Hunt, and offensive lineman Pat Elflein to select the interior defensive lineman.
