2018 NFL Draft: Updated top 25 targets for New York Giants
By Henry Buggy
#2 – USC QB Sam Darnold
The Trojans 6-foot-4, 220-pound quarterback was unable to live up to the hype in his redshirt sophomore season, throwing more interceptions and fewer touchdowns than he did as a freshman.
Despite a disappointing season statically, Darnold led USC to the program’s first Pac-12 title since 2008. He also threw for the fourth most yards (4,143) in the FBS. Both Kiper and Miller have the Trojans quarterback listed as a top five prospect, and he arguably may have the highest ceiling of any quarterback in this year’s draft class.
Darnold has all the traits of a franchise quarterback, but similar to Allen, he is far from a finished product. The Giants may make the perfect fit for the USC quarterback, as he would have time to learn behind Eli Manning for at least one full season before being thrown into action.
McShay had the Cleveland Browns taking the Trojans quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in his first mock draft. NFL teams are really just getting started on the evaluations of these quarterbacks, and at this point, Darnold and Josh Rosen seem neck-and-neck for the top overall pick.
