New York Giants: A deeper dive on Darnold, Rosen and Allen
By Curt Macysyn
Josh Allen (Wyoming)
Mechanics…what mechanics? When watching game film on Allen, his athleticism simply jumps out at you. This guy is built like a linebacker (6-5, 240 lbs.) and has a John Elway-like, strong arm. As far as being an NFL quarterback, it seems that he isn’t close right now, which makes the report about the Cleveland Browns being interested at No. 1, just a little far-fetched. The other thing that stands out is that he rarely displayed solid fundamentals. That may be picky, but remember the Tim Tebow experiment. As players progress in age and experience, it becomes more difficult to unteach faulty mechanics. Based on the lack of fundamentals, look for the Denver Broncos to pass on Allen in favor of a more technically-sound product. Now it seems that everyone has their own opinion on Allen, and the strangest one may come from Jeff Risdon of BrownsWire.
"“I personally think he’s an NFL tight end, not a quarterback. He reminds me very much of Jason Vander Laan, a two-time D-II player of the year at Ferris State with remarkably similar athletic traits. After failing to even stick on practice squads at QB, he’s now a tight end for the Colts.”"
