With many teams looking for a quarterback, the G-Men have a valuable pick to make a trade.

The New York Giants undoubtedly have quarterback issues, but possess a solid starter in Eli Manning. They also have a back-up QB with potential in Davis Webb. According to ESPN, general manager Dave Gettleman indicated that he wants to rebuild with Manning. In addition, new head coach Pat Shurmur is excited to work with Manning too.  Per SNY, he thinks the team can win with the veteran QB.

The New York Giants confidence in Manning and Webb could afford them the luxury of trading the second overall pick. This selection obviously has value to a team with a need at quarterback.

If the Giants are comfortable with Manning and Webb, they could trade the second pick to accumulate more picks. They need help along the offensive line, at running back and at linebacker. Conceivably, they could address these issues by trading back and acquiring more draft picks.

Teams that may want to make a

trade with the Giants include the Denver Broncos (5th), New York Jets (6th), Miami Dolphins (11th), Cincinnati Bengals (12th), Washington Redskins (13th), Arizona Cardinals (15th) and Buffalo Bills (21st and 22nd).

As usual, it’s a fairly extensive list of teams who will want a quarterback. Some of these teams do have a good quarterback. The Kansas City Chiefs, though, showed that having an established quarterback may not matter, as they traded up to acquire their future quarterback last year.

Recent draft trades for quarterbacks:

These are recent examples of teams trading up into the first or second draft slot to take a quarterback:

2017: 49ers trade the 2nd pick to the Bears for the 3rd overall pick, a 3rd round pick, a 4th round pick, and a 2018 – 3rd rounder.

2016: Titans trade the 1st pick, a 4th round pick, and a 6th round pick to the Rams for the 15th pick, two 2nd round picks, a 3rd round pick, a 2017 1st round pick (5th overall), and a 2017 -3 rd round pick.

2016: Browns trade the 2nd pick and a 2017 – 4th round pick to the Eagles for the 8th pick, a 3rd round pick, a 4th round pick, a 2017 – 1st round pick (12th overall), and a 2018 – 2nd round pick.

2012: Rams trade the 2nd pick to the Redskins for the 6th pick, a 2nd round pick, a 2013 – 1st round pick (22nd overall), and a 2014 – 1st round pick (2nd overall).

Depending on how much teams like Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold or Josh Allen, the value of the 2nd pick this year could change.

Projecting trade packages:

A trade with the Denver Broncos (5th) or New York Jets (6th) would likely involve a package that mirrors the 2017 Bears – 49ers trade or the 2016 Eagles – Browns trade.

Potential trade:

The Giants trade the 2nd pick and 2018 – 4th round pick to the Broncos or Jets for the 5th or 6th pick, a 2018 3rd round pick, and a 2019 first round pick.

The next level would be a trade with the Dolphins (11th), Bengals (12th), Redskins (13th), or Cardinals (15th). This would take the Giants out of the top ten. A trade with one of these teams would likely have a return between the 2016 Eagles-Browns trade and 2016 Rams-Titans trade.

Potential trade:

The Giants trade the 2nd pick, a 2018 4th round pick, and a 2019 4th round pick to the Dolphins, Bengals, Redskins or Cardinals for the 11th, 12th, 13th or 15th pick, a 2018 – 2nd round pick, a 2018 – 3rd round pick, a 2019 – 1st round pick and a 2019 – 3rd round pick.

The last potential trade would be with the Buffalo Bills, who hold the 21st and 22nd picks in the draft. It is unlikely that Gettlemen would want to move back so far in the draft. Perhaps the Bills have enough assets to make it worth his while.

Potential trade:

Giants trade the 2nd pick to the Bills for the 21st pick, the 22nd pick, a 2018 – 3rd round pick, a 2019 – 1st round pick, and a 2019 – 4th round pick.

If the Giants want a young quarterback, but don’t love a player this year, a trade could give them a top selection next year. The Jets and Cardinals have weak rosters and could land a top five pick next year.

By getting a top pick in 2019, they could address the quarterback position next year.

These three trade scenarios give the Giants different ways of rebuilding the team. Gettleman isn’t afraid to make trades and needs to decide what would most improve the team.
