New York Giants first-year general manager Dave Gettleman has wasted no time revamping the team’s roster.
The G-Men have added significant players to both sides of the ball but have also witnessed some of their top free agents sign elsewhere.
Former first-round pick Justin Pugh signed a five-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals. Weston Richburg joined the San Francisco 49ers on a five-year deal, and Devon Kennard inked a three-year contract with the Detroit Lions.
The New York Giants needed significant personnel changes following a 3-13 season. At the same time, Gettleman and newly appointed head coach Pat Shurmur also elected to hold onto multiple key players, including veteran quarterback Eli Manning.
The Giants did decide to move on from cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and punter Brad Wing. Brandon Marshall and Dwayne Harris’ future with the franchise remains in question, but it seems like Manning and Marshall are hoping to build on their chemistry in year two.
While the Giants have made some notable signings in free agency, one of their biggest moves came more than a week before the start of the new league year. Gettleman acquired linebacker Alec Ogletree through a trade with the Los Angeles Rams.
New York sent their compensatory fourth-round draft selection and a sixth-round pick to Los Angeles for the 2016 second-team All-Pro.
The trade signals a bigger emphasis on the linebacker position under a new front office. The position was often considered an afterthought under former general manager Jerry Reese.
Here’s a look at Big Blue’s newest additions. Of course, it has to start with Gettleman’s new Hog Mollies.
