New York Giants 7-round mock draft 4.0, post-free agency

Trade Alert! – Giants Trade No. 2 Pick To Buffalo Bills

In GMEN HQ’s Mock Draft 1.0 the Giants sent the No. 2 overall pick to the New York Jets. Plenty has changed since then. Gang Green has since moved up to the No. 3 overall pick through a trade with the Indianapolis Colts. Draft prospects have watched their stock rise and fall through the Senior Bowl, NFL Scouting Combine, and pro days.

What hasn’t changed is Buffalo’s need for a quarterback. In this trade scenario, the Bills send Big Blue the 12th, 22nd, 53rd, and the 65th pick in the upcoming draft for the No. 2 overall pick.

Of course, for this trade to happen New York must believe Manning has at least two-to-three years left. Pat Shurmur and Gettleman must also believe Davis Webb is capable of being Manning’s potential successor, as the opportunity to take a quarterback with a top three pick doesn’t come along often.

By trading back the Giants will be able to address multiple needs. The Giants need to weigh the value of the No. 2 overall pick. If they are not in “love” with a quarterback, trading back may be the smartest option.

Saquon Barkley and Quenton Nelson may be the safest draft selections for the Giants. New York can also find starters at both positions at any point of the first three rounds. The year’s class is stacked with talent at the guard and running back positions.

So while trading back may not be the most exciting move, it could prove to be a smart decision should Gettleman not “love” a particular quarterback prospect.
