#3 – B.J. Goodson

The Giants are counting on improved linebacker play under their new defensive coordinator. Big Blue acquired inside linebacker Alec Ogletree through a trade this offseason and are slated to start Vernon and Martin at outside linebacker.

But who’s projected to play alongside Olgetree at inside linebacker?

Many thought the Giants might look to add another inside linebacker in the draft. They didn’t, leaving B.J. Goodson as their top option.

The 2016 fourth-round pick out of Clemson earned the starting middle linebacker position last season but was limited just seven starts due to an ankle injury. Goodson proved himself a valuable run defender immediately but struggled in pass coverage.

He has said he wants to be a part of New York’s turnaround. Gettleman is clearly giving him that opportunity.

It’s up to Goodson to lock down the starting role next to Ogletree. He will need to show improved play in pass coverage for that to happen. He’s also the best option to fill New York’s need at inside linebacker and is still developing at 24-years-old.
