#5 – Nickel Cornerback

Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple are expected to hold down the top two cornerback spots in 2018, but it’s unknown who will be the team’s top slot cornerback.

Gettleman elected to release Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie this offseason, leaving a hole in the team’s nickel defense.

The Giants have added some options to fill the void this offseason. Gettleman signed veteran cornerback William Gay in free agency. He also added undrafted free agents Aaron Davis and Grant Haley.

Donte Deayon is also surely in the mix. The second-year corner out of Boise State played in four games last season.

All four will be vying for the starting nickel cornerback position.

Gay has the most experience, making him the favorite. He also has struggled with consistency throughout his 11-year career. He lost his starting role in Pittsburgh to undrafted free agent Mike Hilton.

The question is can he have a career resurgence with the Giants?

If not, Deayon, Davis, and Haley will be dueling for the starting slot role.
