5 underrated New York Giants to watch for in 2018
Wayne Gallman, RB
Yes, Saquon is the premier, every-down back, but I completely expect there to be room for Wayne Gallman to eat in this offense.
Shurmur would be wise not to beat the breaks off of Barkley by giving him 25-plus carries a game.
The Giants No. 2-overall pick is slotted to make $31.194 million over four years, per the 2011 CBA (h/t Over the Cap), so it’s important for Shurmur to keep him fresh and healthy for as long as possible. Gallman is coming off a solid year despite the G-Men’s offensive line forcing their backfield to earn every fraction of a yard.
The 23-year-old rushed for 476 yards on 111 carries equaling a 4.3 yards-per-carry average. Truly impressive considering opponent’s loaded the box with no fear of getting beat on the pass. If Barkley can do it all and Jonathan Stewart can be the power back to wear down defenses, Gallman can be a solid change-of-pace guy.
I’m thinking a Derrick Ward-type role like the heyday of Earth, Wind & Fire with Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw in 2007-08.
