The fate of a franchise can be permanently altered by player injuries. Like every NFL squad, the New York Giants have had their fair share of team altering events.

On the other hand, sometimes injuries present player opportunities. This past NFL season, we saw that dynamic at work with the world champion Philadelphia Eagles. The Birds lost their starting quarterback Carson Wentz.  late in the season. Luckily, Philadelphia could count on former starter Nick Foles and won Super Bowl LII.

For similar reasons, don’t count on former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms making this list. Simms foot injury against the Buffalo Bills in 1990, opened the door for back-up Jeff Hostetler. In Super Bowl XXV, Hostetler led the New York Giants to a 20-19 victory over the very same Bills team.

Also not included is Jason Pierre-Paul. JPP’s devastating hand injury certainly affected his career. At this point, it is too early to call compare it to the Jason Sehorn, but it certainly ranks up there. Once Pierre-Paul calls it a career, we can take a look back and evaluate.

That was a time when opportunity knocked and someone answered the door. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at devastating injuries that impacted the team’s season, and perhaps forever altered New York Giants history.
