#4 – Lawrence Taylor

Linebacker Lawrence Taylor was the all everything linebacker for the New York Giants – starting in 1981. Taylor made an immediate impact upon joining the squad, as they made the playoffs for the first time in 18 seasons. LT won two championships with Big Blue, and he seemed impervious to injury or pain.

According to the New York Times on Nov. 11, 1992, Taylor’s business agent, Steve Rosner, voiced something that the typical New York Giants fan would about Taylor’s injury:

"“When you have a guy who has willed away almost every injury he’s ever had.  It’s tough to see him laid up like this. It affected me and I think it affected him.”"

Not wanting to have his career end by injury, Taylor returned to the NFL in 1993, but he wasn’t the same.  That campaign, Taylor registered only six quarterback sacks, the lowest total for him when playing a full season.  He retired after a 44-3 playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
