No. 9 – Robert Thomas

It’s unknown how many defensive linemen the New York Giants plan to keep. Damon Harrison, Dalvin Tomlinson, and B.J. Hill are the only three likely guaranteed roster spots, but Kerry Wynn and A.J. Francis seem to have an inside track entering training camp.

With Josh Mauro suspended the first four games and RJ McIntosh placed on the NFI list, a roster spot could be open for Robert Thomas.

He will have to compete with Josh Banks, Jordan Williams, Tyrell Chavis, Kristjan Sokoli, as well as Wynn and Francis to make the 53-man roster. His ability to play both nose tackle and defensive end in Bettcher’s 3-4 base defense gives him a legitimate chance.

Thomas, 27, has spent the past two seasons with Big Blue. He appeared in a career-high 15 games last season and recorded 16 tackles and three tackles for a loss.

Establishing a strong rotation along the defensive line will be a priority for Bettcher. It’s up to Thomas and the others listed to prove they deserve a place on his defense.
