No. 5 – Shurmur’s Offense Shows Off Big-Play Potential

New York’s offense struggled early against the Jets, especially on the ground. But Giants fans got a first-hand look at Shurmur’s newly implemented offense and the big-play potential it provides.

Eli Manning showed he could still stretch the field with his arm, completing downfield passes to both Sterling Shepard and Cody Latimer. Davis Webb also got in on the action. The second-year quarterback completed a 47-yard throw to Alonzo Russell in the second half.

Manning’s 54-yard bomb to Latimer was set up off play-action, something the 37-year-old quarterback has had plenty of success with in the past. Manning finished the game with a 97.7 passer rating, completing 17-of-23 passes for 188 yards.

Shurmur has helped multiple quarterbacks post career-high numbers during his coaching career. Giants fans are hoping this is just the start for Manning under his new head coach.
