New York Giants vs. New York Jets: Top 5 takeaways

No. 3 – Special Teams Unit Showing Promise
The biggest positive for the Giants this preseason has to be their special teams. That was highlighted on Friday night.
Hunter Sharp got things started with a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown. The third-year receiver out of Utah State has had his ups and downs this preseason but looks to have the inside track to Big Blue’s starting punt returner role.
Aldrick Rosas continued to make the most of his clean slate after a rocky rookie season. He connected on all four of his field goal attempts. He is now 6-for-6 through three games and has connected on both his extra point attempts. If Rosas hadn’t already secured the long-term job ahead of Friday’s game, his performance against the Jets will only help his case.
Punter Riley Dixon also showcased his value on Friday. He pinned Gang Green inside their own 20-yard line three times on just five punts.
Special teams played a significant factor in New York’s 3-13 season last year. The unit is now making game-changing plays for the Giants, as Shurmur noted after the game.
"“You saw how one phase of the ball can pick you up. That punt return was just the spark that we needed and it was a terrific run, it was well blocked.”"
If it continues into the regular season, the G-Men may end up having one of the league’s most improved special teams units.
