No. 3 – Landon Collins doesn’t return

This one surely will cause controversy, but here are the facts. Landon Collins is coming off of shoulder surgery and for a player who plies his craft as a solid tackler, that’s not the best news heading into free agency. Remember that solid safeties are usually available in free agency or the NFL Draft, and that the 2018 franchise tag for the position was $11.287 million, according to Pro Football Talk. In terms of replacing Collins, the New York Giants should take a long hard look at impending unrestricted free agent Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, his coverage skills are better than Collins, and his pricetag would like be similar to Collins. At first blush, the conservative Giants would want to employ the franchise tag due to Collins surgery, but that strategy just kicks the can down the road. Better to cut bait, and call it a day with Collins, than to continue with needless roster uncertainty.
