The NFL Draft chatter surrounding the New York Giants has centered around the quarterback position.

Many draft analysts have the New York Giants selecting former Ohio State star signal-caller Dwayne Haskins with the No. 6 overall selection. While that pick certainly doesn’t fall out of the equation, it seems that the trend appears to be leaning toward a high-end defensive stud to enhance coordinator James Bettcher’s unit.

Since the NFL Scouting Combine the steady drip of news seems to indicate that the Arizona Cardinals will select Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall selection. That may open up an opportunity for the New York Giants to acquire Josh Rosen, without having to dip into one of their two first-round selections.

If Big Blue can fill critical defensive needs, especially at defensive end or edge defender, and get its franchise quarterback of the future as well, the draft process will be considered a success. The other important need the Giants still have appears at right tackle.

It’s possible that Big Blue will address the tackle position in the first-round, but based upon the dynamics of this draft, that would seem less likely than grabbing two defenders.

In GMenHQ Mock Draft version 1.0, we do consider one trade in the top 10, but that doesn’t affect how the New York Giants No. 6 overall selection plays out.
