Wayne Gallman

Wayne Gallman is another player that I haven’t heard any trade chatter about, and again, I’m not quite sure why. Believe me, there are few people that better understand the fact that runningbacks have little-to-no value in this era of the NFL (paging Dave Gettleman on line one). With that said, Gallman has shown himself to be very productive in his time with Big Blue, and is still only 25-years-old, while carrying just an 800K cap charge for 2020.

There are numerous teams around the league that are having trouble running the football, and would be wise to reach out to the Giants about Gallman. The former Clemson Tiger will in all likelihood have no plans to stick around New York and be Saquon Barkley’s backup, so why not explore moving him for a pick? This team is going no where fast, so all players that aren’t part of future plans should be on the table. Maybe Gettleman could even swing a player for player deal (something we  almost never see these days) for a 2017 or 2018 draft pick that isn’t fitting in with their current team.

The Giants only invested a fourth-round pick in Gallman, and it was Jerry Reese back in 2017, at that. I wouldn’t be blown away if the Giants were able to pick up a fifth or sixth-round draft pick in return for Gallman at this point and time. While I don’t think a Gallman trade would be possible in the off-season, as teams have plenty of time to develop and uncover hidden runningback gems in training camp and OTA’s, there are a few teams that would be better tomorrow with Gallman on their roster.

I went back and forth with Gallman and Golden Tate at this spot, but I really think Gallman is the more reasonable trade piece for the Giants, and the potential acquiring team (Tate carries a huge dead cap number in 2020, and I believe the team acquiring him would not be able to void it due to suspension since thy would have acquired him after said suspension).
