With the current state of the New York Giants coaching staff, now seems like as good a time as ever to compile a list of the five-worst Head Coaches in team history.
The New York Football Giants are a storied franchise, not long ago considered to be amongst the gold standards of NFL franchises. Wellington Mara is one of the most respected owners in the history of sports, and for good reason. Ever since his passing, his son, John, has taken over the role as head man in charge. The results have been mixed, as younger Mara enjoyed massive success early on, winning two Super Bowls in his first few years as the primary Mara owner.
However, things have spiraled out of control ever since Tom Coughlin was unceremoniously jettisoned from town, and it’s no secret that Mara’s inability to bring in effective leadership on the ground level has led to many of the tragic results we’ve witnessed over the past several years. With the calls for Pat Shurmur’s firing reaching a fever pitch, I thought it was the perfect time to stack up his ‘resume’ against some of the other most unsuccessful Head Coaches in the history of the franchise.
While some will surely accuse me of recency bias, I hope you enjoy (probably not the right word) my rankings. Here is my list of the five worst head coaches in New York Giants franchise history.
