4. The Jones-Slayton connection

Could Jones-to-Slayton be the new Manning-to-Burress? It’s far too early to tell, but early signs could not be more encouraging. Dave Gettleman has seemingly found another diamond in the rough, as the embattled GM has appeared to hit a legitimate home run with Darius Slayton in the fifth-round.

After missing the first two games of the campaign due to injury, all Slayton has done since is compile 394 yards and five touchdowns (on a 14.5 yards-per-reception average) in eight games. It’s some coincidence that all of those games have come with Daniel Jones as the QB, as the two seem to enjoy a wonderful rapport. When you talk to successful QB’s around the league about why they seem to connect with some guys and don’t connect with others, they mostly don’t have a great answer. It really comes down to just having an unspoken timing, and these two rookies have shown they have just that.

The Giants should still be in the market for a big, possession receiver in the off-season, but coming into this year I don’t think anyone was imaging this level of production from the former Aubburn  Tiger. Hopefully this connection is one we’ll get to see for years to come, and who knows, maybe it will end up playing in a Super Bowl one day, too.
