With the 98th overall pick the New York Giants select…Antoine Winfield Jr., safety, Minnesota.

Supplementing Chase Young is a playmaker in the secondary in Antoine Winfield Jr., the son of 14 year NFL vet Antoine Winfield, who made three Pro Bowls as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. Like his father, whom forced 41 turnovers in his career, Winfield Jr. has forced 11 turnovers so far in his career and nine(7 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles) in 2019 alone. While undersized at a listed 5’10” 205 lbs, Winfield Jr. certainly does not lack speed. He clocked a 4.27(!!) and a 4.35 40 times at an Ohio State camp in high school.

The major red flag he carries is his durability. Winfield Jr. needed to be granted a sixth year of eligibility after he suffered two season-ending injuries in the 2017 and 2018 seasons after a hamstring injury along with foot surgery. If Winfield can stay healthy, he can be a difference-maker as the Giants free safety.

Unfortunately for the Giants, this pick is about 30 slots lower than their original third round pick that the team traded away for Leonard Williams. Still, they can make their only third rounder count with this selection.
