1. Experience

As I touched on earlier this week, this coaching staff is severely lacking in the meaningful NFL coaching experience department. That’s fine, as Joe Judge can surely make a leap from special teams coach to successful head coach, as long as the right people are put in the right places around him.

So far, Judge has chosen to fill out his staff with more relatively inexperienced coaches. The offensive coordinator spot was always going to be his most crucial hire, but now it is for even more reasons. Making such a big jump is going to require guidance, and Jason Garrett has eight-plus years of head coaching experience – and four more as an OC – under his belt.

By all accounts, Garrett has proven to be extremely easy to work with and is one of the best people in football. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who’s worked with him – or played for him – that has anything bad to say about him. He seems like someone that can mesh with multiple different types of personalities, and his experience and positivity would be a big-time plus for Joe Judge’s staff.
