The NY Giants are already in a favorable salary cap position this offseason, and they can make it even better by releasing a few of these players.

After years of living in salary cap hell, the NY Giants are finally in a position to become big spenders in this 2020 offseason. Big Blue already boasts $62M in cap space, although GM Dave Gettleman has curiously said he plans to earmark $20M for an in-season emergency fund.

That hampers the Giants’ ability to be a factor in the market tremendously, and the figure becomes even lower when factoring in paying potential draft picks. The good news is, Big Blue has more than a few players that are solid candidates to be released after playing out a solid portion of their guaranteed contracts.

Many (rightly) pointed to Jerry Reese as the reason the NY Giants have been in such an unfavorable salary cap position over the past few years, but these players were mostly signed by Dave Gettleman, and we’ll see if he’s able to do the right thing and move on from these clear mistakes.

Here are the top five NY Giants that could be released this offseason.
