5. OT Jason Peters

This one is by far the biggest longshot on the list, particularly after the NY Giants agreed to terms with swing tackle Cam Fleming on Wednesday. I’ve proposed the intriguing option of cutting Nate Solder and flipping his $6.5M “cap saving” into Jason Peters more than once, and even though Solder got a small roster bonus yesterday this option still intrigues me.

Cutting Solder as a post-June 1st designation would allow Big Blue to spread his enormous dead cap hit ($13M) over two seasons instead of one, which could make this more likely. Again, it’s very unlikely that Solder is even cut, but Jason Peters is so far a superior player over Solder that even if he’s on the team still it’s worth considering.

A freak of nature still producing at a high level into his late 30’s, Peters could have an ax to grind with Philadelphia after his unceremonious ending with the team in the last few weeks. I’m still very firmly on team draft an offensive tackle with the #4 overall pick, but if the team is set on taking Isaiah Simmons than there is surely room for Peters on this team.

Even if that means sliding Nate Solder to right tackle.

Chance it happens: Very low

Potential offer: 1 year/$7M
