RD 7: S Tanner Muse
So far, the New York Giants have failed to add much in the line of safety or cornerback depth in the draft. While they currently have James Bradberry, Deandre Baker, Sam Beal, Corey Ballentine and Grant Haley at cornerback, they only have Julian Love and Jabrill Peppers at safety, making safety depth a must.
With their second pick in the seventh round, the Giants add to that safety depth by selecting Tanner Muse out of the University of Clemson. Muse represents a big-bodied safety at 6’2″ and 235-pounds.
Muse was a solid run defender for the Tigers and played well in coverage as a deep safety for Dabo Swinney. He possesses good fundamental tackling skills and a wide tackling radius due to his size.
However, Muse isn’t overly fast and his range in coverage is limited. He projects more as a box safety that can play nickel linebacker as well. Given his strong fundamentals and versatility, Muse makes an excellent pickup in the middle of the seventh round of the draft.
