The odds that the NY Giants will select Isaiah Simmons with their first pick in the 2020 NFL draft is +110.  That means, according to the latest sportsbooks, Simmons has a 41% chance of joining Big Blue.

With little to no sports to bet on, online sportsbooks have been busy setting the odds for the NFL draft. Any gambler knows that Vegas is rarely wrong, so the increased odds that Simmons will land with the NY Giants should be intriguing for G-Men fans.

What can be attributed to the odds increasing so significantly (from +800 to +110) in favor Dave Gettleman selecting Simmons? I talked to oddschecker’s spokesman, Pete Watt, about that very question.

Here’s what he had to say:

"“The rumor mill – plus a plethora of mock drafts – indicate that Dave Gettleman will take the young playmaker to the Giants in a bid to stregthen their defense and provide some star power. Moreover, an odds shift of this magnitude indicates that the books have taken a significant amount of money on Simmons ending up in NYC and adjusted their prices as a result with their liabilities in mind!”"

Misinformation and deception are abundant leading up the NFL draft, but money talks. Could there be other factors at play for the increased odds? The Giants have not been able to keep their draft desires secret in recent years.

Many draft experts knew the Giants had great interest in Daniel Jones in 2019. This makes it seem less likely that the Simmons interest is just a smokescreen.

Pete Watt also went into detail about other college prospects’ odds of becoming a Giant in his latest column. According to the latest odds at BetMGM, Tristan Wirfs has the second-best odds of being Gettleman’s first pick. Wirfs has a 29% chance, while Mekhi Becton has a 20% chance to be the guy.

Why should the increased odds of Isaiah Simmons becoming a NY Giant be considered good news? The hybrid linebacker is an incredible athlete that would immediately make the defense a much better unit. He is a rare talent that the Gettleman would regret passing on.

There simply isn’t an NFL comparison for Simmons. Some have tried to compare the Clemson Tiger to the Chargers’ Derwin James since both players can line up all over the defense and have a knack for making big plays. James immediately made the Chargers a better defense in 2018, and he was sorely missed in 2019 when he missed time with injury.

Not only is Simmons bigger than James, but he is also faster. The thought of Simmons being added to Patrick Graham’s defense should make fans in New York very excited. The fact that those odds are increasing can allow NY Giants fans to be cautiously optimistic about our chances.
