RD 2 (36th): Julian Okwara EDGE – Notre Dame

Another player I recently profiled, Julian Okwara has the potential to be a top-tier edge guy with the NY Giants if things work out the way they should. His scheme fit is perfect, and in a really weak edge class, I’m taking the guy with the highest ceiling over the highest floor as we’ve already got a few middle-round edges on this team with high floors.

Okwara possesses plus-plus athleticism and getoff and would likely be Big Blue’s strongest pass-rushing threat the moment he walked through the doors.

Too small to be a defensive end and not quite rangy enough to be a 4-3 outside linebacker, new head coach Joe Judge and defensive coordinator Todd Grahm would have a lot of fun lining up Okwara far outside to take advantage of his burst which could lead to him beating slower offensive tackles with ease.

The major red flag with Okwara is his broken fibula that occurred near the end of the 2019 season. Should his medicals check out, he’s got the most potential to be a double-digit sack guy in this class behind Chase Young.

Gettleman gets the chance to right the (minor) wrong of letting Julian’s older brother, Romeo, walk before the 2018 season and possibly find the Pro Bowl type edge the team so desperately needs.
