Giants Receive: Dolphins first-round pick No. 5, Dolphins third-round pick No. 70
Dolphins Receive: Giants first-round pick No. 4
Trade Net Value: +140 draft points
The first scenario on the block is a very low risk, high-reward one for the NY Giants. New York moves down just one spot and nabs a high third-round pick. Miami likely takes a quarterback there so the Giants can likely draft who they wanted and still receive additional draft capital.
This scenario technically has the Dolphins overpaying according to Drafttek’s trade value chart, by about 140 points or the equivalent to a late third-round pick. Throughout these scenarios, you will see all of the teams trading into the Giants spot because Dave Gettleman likely will need them to for him to make the trade at all.
However, because the Chargers will likely be fighting to move up for a quarterback also, Miami will part way with more due to the bidding war. With the draft capital the Dolphins have (six picks in top 70 selections) they certainly have the ability to do so.
This makes them a target for the Giants to attempt to get them to overpay, with the dream scenario being New York working free one of the Dolphins first or second-round selections. I did try to be more realistic in this scenario, but anything can happen.
Even with a smaller trade like this, the third-round pick can go a long way for David Gettleman to rebuild the team. Players likely in that third-round range include (according to The Draft Network’s big board): Temple center Matt Hennessy, Lenoir-Rhyne safety Kyle Dugger, and St. John’s offensive tackle Ben Bartch.
