Without a plethora of draft picks, the NY Giants need to make their first two selections count. Here are three players they should stay away from.
As I’ve previously discussed, it is discouraging that the NY Giants went into free agency with major needs at offensive tackle, edge rusher, center, and even free safety, only to have those same exact needs as the team heads into the 2020 NFL Draft.
Even while spending upwards of $70M, GM Dave Gettleman failed to address any of these premium positions in a meaningful way and now are in a situation where there are far too many needs to fill with the limited amount of key draft picks the team holds.
This could lead to Big Blue reaching and taking a chance on a prospect it wouldn’t otherwise, which is a recipe for disaster. Edge rusher, in particular, stands out as the main position that could play out this way as this is the weakest edge-rushing class I can remember.
It has been said that successful teams build through the draft and fill needs through free agency, but the NY Giants did not follow the latter part of that strategy and now, in turn, might be forced to reach based on need.
Hopefully, the team meshes need, player ability, and positional value while making its first two draft picks.
For this list, I focused on players that I feel are either being overvalued, are at a position that we are already strong at, or play a position that is weak in this class which would lead to us reaching by definition.
Here are three players the NY Giants should avoid at the top of the 2020 NFL Draft (pick #36 and higher).
