Reason #2: Zack Baun has the high football IQ NY Giants coaches are looking for

Joe Judge wants smart football players. He needs to trust that his players can understand and execute their assignments. The Bill Belichick disciple believes in the mantra that players should just do their job.

Baun is someone that the coaching staff would love. The college All-American was a dual-threat quarterback in high school and was the offensive player of the year in the state of Wisconsin.

His experience at quarterback helped him when he transitioned to outside linebacker. At the college level, and increasingly so in the NFL, teams run the read-option. Baun’s time at quarterback taught him to remain patient and not bite too hard on the handoff. Despite being undersized, Baun played the run exceedingly well for the Badgers.

What is another reason the coaching staff would love him? He has connections with the Giants’ current outside linebackers coach, Bret Bielema. The former head coach at Wisconsin went to Baun’s pro day and was able to witness the Badger’s versatility first-hand.
