Game #3: Week 6, Giants vs Redskins, 1:00 pm

In Week 6 of the 2020 season, the NY Giants are facing the Washington Redskins in the second of three straight NFC East divisional games. The Giants are coming off a sweep of the Redskins in 2019 highlighted by big games from their two leaders on offense, Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones.

Both teams head into 2020 with new head coaches and second-year quarterbacks in Jones and Dwayne Haskins. Ron Rivera is looking to implement a new identity for this Redskins offense to improve from last year’s disappointing numbers.

The Redskins passing attack doesn’t seem too talented this year so look for the Giants to put Haskins in uncomfortable situations early and often with different looks in Patrick Graham’s scheme.

The Redskins provide several threats in their talented front seven on defense. The unit will heavily rely on multiple pass rushers on the field at once which the Redskins seemingly have in abundance. Guys like Ryan Kerrigan, Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, and Montez Sweat must be accounted for at all times.

In 2019, many fans banged the drum for the Giants to tank for a highly-touted pass rusher, Chase Young from the Ohio State. The NY Giants Week 16 win in Washington directly ruined the team’s chances of selecting him but also gave the Skins the golden opportunity to take the draft’s best player.

The Chase Young vs Andrew Thomas matchup will be one we will likely see for many years to come but the first one will be important to see for both players’ development. How will Thomas handle Young’s speed and size?

It will also be interesting to see the continued progression of both teams’ passers in their sophomore seasons. The Giants took Jones over Haskins, a move that will be closely followed for the next decade.

The Redskins are one of the few teams Big Blue has fared well against in recent years and look for that trend to continue into the 2020s.
