3. QB Alex Tanney

If you’ve been following this website for a while, then you already know my overall disdain for quarterback Alex Tanney as a player. It’s nothing personal, but in the NFL, keeping a player around solely for mentor/character purposes is a sorry tactic, and those are the only reasons Tanney has been kept around for two seasons.

Even Dave Gettleman – Tanney’s biggest supporter – couldn’t look you in the eyes and tell you that Tanney could help the NY Giants win football games — so why is he on the team again? Daniel Jones already had Eli Manning to mentor him last year, so again, there was no point to keep him around.

Luckily, Joe Judge made a firm statement early on in his tenure when he said players will not stick around for mentorship abilities as that is what coaches are for. Right away, that spelled bad news for Tanney.

Add in the fact that Big Blue signed former Cowboys backup – and Jason Garrett favorite – Cooper Rush, as well as veteran Colt McCoy while also signing the talented Case Cookus as a UDFA, and the chances are (or should be) slim-to-none that this journeyman will call the Meadowlands home in 2020.

Despite signing a two-year contract before last season for around the veteran’s minimum, the NY Giants could cut Tanney and incur zero financial penalties for doing so, just like with Pulley.

Tanney has been with 9 teams over 8 years and failed to make his mark with any of them, throwing just 15 career passes in a blowout setting.

Chances it happens: 80%
