DeAndre Baker’s lawyer is extremely confident that the embattled player’s legal case will be dropped in the near future.
When DeAndre Baker of the NY Giants was originally arrested back in May, the case seemed pretty cut and dry. Now, however, Baker’s legal course believes the case could be dismissed as soon as this week.
It’s important to remember that just about every lawyer ever has maintained this position, but the case did take a turn for the better (for Baker) during his first court appearance when he was let out on bond, and things got better in terms of Baker playing for the NY Giants when the courts ruled he could travel to New Jersey for work purposes.
In Florida, prosecutors have a month from the date of the original arraignment to formally decide to charge a person with a crime and go after the case in court. That leaves a maximum of 12 more days before we know if Baker will in fact be indicted on his armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm charges.
Patel called the case “complete garbage” and a shakedown”, and then had even more to say.
"“I think we’ve got the case won, to be honest with you. I think it’s only a matter of time,” Patel said. “But it’s the kid’s life. This kid will get suspended and lose his job, and then the case gets dismissed and what have we done? So everybody’s taking a wait and see approach."
Patel’s main worry is that if and when that charge does officially come down, that Baker’s career with the Giants will effectively be over as the team will be unlikely to stand by him while he’s put on the NFL’s suspension list that can last a very long time.
According to Patel, he has proof that DeAndre Baker was logged into and playing Madden at the time of the incident. He also claims to have and presented statements from the original witnesses from the alleged crime that said Baker didn’t do anything at all.
There is a chance that the Giants will stick by Baker during a long case due to what they have invested in him, and due to the fact that just because there is an official case doesn’t make him guilty.
Obviously, the best-case scenario is that Baker is innocent and the he doesn’t get indicted. If that happens, Baker could theoretically rejoin the team immediately and start working hard to get to where he needs to be as an NFL player after a rough rookie season.
Either way, this whole thing has started out as a mess and you can expect it continue to be a mess as we wait for the outcome.
