5. EDGE Cameron Wake
Cameron Wake hasn’t been a name we’ve heard linked much to the NY Giants in the 2020 offseason, but if the team is stuck ongoing with the pass rush by committee approach, giving the 38-year-old ageless wonder might be worth the gamble.
Up until last season – where injuries derailed his season early – Wake had continued to be a pass-rushing force well into his late 30’s. So much so, that the Titans handed him a lofty 3/$23M contract before the start of last season – a very decent chunk of change for a 37-year-old.
After spending the majority of the beginning of his career in the CFL, Wake exploded s soon as he got into the NFL and put together a monster ten-year stretch. Even as he aged, and counting last season’s dud (due to injuries and only playing 18% of snaps) where he only got 2.5 sacks, Wake has racked up 30.5 sacks in the last four years, 37.5 sacks n the last five years, and a staggering 49 sacks in the last six years.
Talk about consistent production.
If you’re worried about his injury last year, don’t be, as he played at least 14 games in 9/11 NFL seasons. He’d likely come in on the cheap and by all accounts has some good football left in front of him, so why not take a shot on him if the price is right — which by all accounts, it should be.
Cameron Wake would be an upgrade over almost every pass rusher currently on the NY Giants – even at his age – and if Gettleman can get him on the cheap, this is something that should be seriously considered on a one-year deal while the team continues to look for its stud pass rusher of the future.
