Eric Tomlinson

Eric Tomlinson enters his second stint with the NY Giants for 2020. Tomlinson was cut by the Jets in the last round of cuts before the regular season in 2019. Tomlinson didn’t have to pack his bags and move though, as the cross-town Giants swooped in and claimed him off waivers.

His original stint with Big Blue was non-descript. He was cut after three weeks while limited to 40 snaps in three games mainly for jumbo packages. He was used more on special teams and must’ve shown enough promise as the Patriots signed him only a few weeks later.

Tomlinson’s Patriots stint was a brief two weeks. Tomlinson signed back with the Giants in free agency. Keep in mind that Joe Judge got the firsthand opportunity to coach and work closely with Eric in the building.

He will need to show his ability to be versatile and succeed in blocking and catching passes. He faces some competition as the Giants brought in new faces to the group. Tomlinson is likely going to be a camp body unless the Giants take four tight ends and he shows significant improvements from last year.

Garrett Dickerson

Garrett Dickerson enters his third offseason with the Giants as he looks to latch onto a roster spot. Dickerson joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2018 out of Northwestern.

Garrett is a homegrown product, originally from Englewood, NJ. He played for powerhouse Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, NJ.

Dickerson has had a bumpy road with the NY Giants. He was cut from the final roster and then placed on the practice squad to start off 2018.  Dickerson has been through the NFL transaction mill from getting cut, waived, and being added and removed from the Giants practice squad numerous times.

Dickerson will need to show improvements and development from last year to have any shot at making the final roster. His career is in jeopardy and he will need to fight and earn every rep and look he gets at practice and in games. He is facing an uphill battle to make the team’s roster. He has overcome the odds of two seasons in a row.

Will he make it three?

Rysen John

Rysen John joins the Giants to start his football career in America. Rysen is a Canadian player from Simon Fraser University. SFU is actually the only non-American college to be a part of the NCAA sports system (Great trivia question).

John is an intriguing prospect with enticing physical attributes. He is 6’7, 227 pounds and runs an unofficial 4.68 40 yard dash. He certainly has the size to play in the league but will face a significant challenge transitioning from D2 competition to the NFL.

Rysen caught 10 touchdowns as a senior. The talent is there and the Giants can only hope he can couple his size and use it to his advantage and strength. He is certainly an intriguing prospect and one to watch in camp. However, he will likely not be seeing the Metlife Stadium turf anytime soon after August barring a major underdog story.

Kyle Markway

Kyle Markway begins his NFL journey in New York. Hailing from the University of South Carolina, Markway is a traditional tight end. He is similar to Kaden Smith as both are able to block and catch with similar success rates.

The Giants did not take a tight end in this year’s draft. Markway has the chance to impress the coaching staff and bring a nasty streak to the tight end room.

The former Gamecock will need to bust his tail off to make the team. He is an intriguing player with a chance to be developed down the line but the reality is he doesn’t seem to have a realistic chance to make the team’s roster in September. All it takes is a few splash plays to show the team what he can do.

At best, Markway will look to make the team’s practice squad to continue his NFL career and get better for next season.
