3. OG Will Hernandez
The second official draft pick of Dave Gettleman’s tenure as the GM of the NY Giants, Will Hernandez was universally considered to be a steal and just about as a can’t miss prospect as there could be.
After an up-and-down, yet promising, rookie year, Hernandez badly regressed in 2019. Heading into 2019, writers at our own site were so excited with what they saw in 2018 that they thought he would be a potential Pro Bowl quality player in 2020.
Even worse, the area he really regressed in was in his run blocking, which was supposed to be his bread and butter heading into the NFL.
He was a major reason for the NY Giants’ offensive line struggling overall in 2019, and again, it was mostly in the run department as he only allowed 2 sacks in over 1,000 snaps.
To be fair to Hernandez, he was playing in between two of the worst players at their respective positions in the NFL (Solder and Halapio), so hopefully, the upgrades along the O-line translate into more production out of Hernandez.
But his 45.7 overall Pro Football Focus run block grade is something to be very concerned about, and something he needs to fix fast if he wants to remain with the team long-term and help the NY Giants be the very best they can be in 2020.
