3. Cameron Wake

If you were waiting for the point where this article went off the rails a bit, here we are. Yes, I’m seriously advocating for the NY Giants to take a look at a 38-year-old pass rusher, although it goes against everything I preached leading up to the offseason.

But Cameron Wake is not your average 38-year-old football player, and even though his 2019 season with the Titans didn’t go as planned due to injury, he still showed he can play at a pretty high level when he was out there.

The Titans were so confident in his abilities at age 37 that they threw a three-year, $23M contract his way -it’s almost unheard of for a player that’s not a quarterback to make that kind of money at that age, and you better believe there was good reason for it.

The Titans looked like geniuses after week one when Wake sacked Baker Mayfield 2.5 times to enter the rare ‘100 career sack club’, but those would wind up being his only sacks as a member of the team.

Still, his metrics were very much in line with a solid pass rusher as he added 13 pressures to his stat line in only 9 games.

So while the NY Giants signing Cameron Wake would obviously have to be a short-term deal, we’re talking about a guy that racked up 100 sacks in the NFL despite not entering the league until he was 27 (he played in the CFL prior).

He’s built like a brick wall, and he only missed 2 out of a possible 48 games in the three years leading up to 2019, so injuries shouldn’t be too much of a concern.

Cameron Wake at the vet minimum or close to it? I’m in. What’s the risk?
