3. QB Alex Tanney

If you’re a longtime reader of this site, you know I’ve been campaigning for Alex Tanney to get the heck off the NY Giants for quite some time. The past – and current (Gettleman, although he has no say in this particular matter as Judge is in charge of roster cuts) regime – put far too much stock into ‘veteran leaders’ and ‘mentors’.

That’s why nothing excited me more when one of Joe Judge’s first public comment was that he would not entertain having ‘mentors’ on the team as that is what coaches are for; THANK YOU!

Tanney is the poster boy for Gettleman’s feeling that mentors are important, and it appears that may be coming to an end — at least on the 55-man roster.

Alex Tanney offers nothing in terms of actually being able to play football – do you really think me putting his picture of him in workout gear instead of an actual uniform was by accident 😉 – and him taking up a roster spot saw the exit of an actual promising youngster, Kyle Lauletta, being cut one year after being a fourth-round pick – the epitome of terrible asset management.

Of course, the Eagles snatched him right up and he is definitely in their future plans as a backup QB.

To Gettleman’s credit, he only gave Tanney a one-year/$1M contract with no guaranteed money, almost -and hopefully – sealing his fate and ending this horrific experiment.

Some have nagged me about taking the Tanney issue so seriously, but Lauletta showed real positive signs heading into year two that he could potentially be the backup QB of the future, but instead, we just wasted a fourth-round pick to keep a mentor around for one more season when Eli Manning was already on the roster for that reason past Week 2.

Next. Here's what an ideal, realistic 2020 NYG season should look like. dark

Hopefully, Joe Judge and the NY Giants finally end this nightmare, and Tanney is released as soon as possible.

Cap savings: $1M

Chance he’s cut: 80%
