WR3: Golden Tate

While I’ll never quite get over the NY Giants swapping out a transcendent, young talent for a 31-year-old redundant slot receiver, Golden Tate did what he always does in his first year with Big Blue — he made plays.

Obviously, the Beckham-Tate equation goes a lot deeper than that, but Tate surely showed he has gas left in his tank. Three more years left of gas left? That’s the $37.5M question (his contract total).

Jason Garrett is going to have to get mighty creative to make this double starting slot receiver thing work, but lucky for NY Giants fans, Garrett is mighty creative. I expect the Giants to run a lot of four wideout sets, maybe even some with Evan Engram on the outside, but either Tate or Shepard is going to have to play on the boundary a solid amount of the time.

I expect Shepard to command that role and Tate to do the dirty work in the slot. If Tate can play as he did with the Seahawks and Lions, this offense will be in good shape, even if the receivers are smaller than usual.
