NY Giants kicker Aldrick Rosas put himself in quite the predicament back in June, but somehow, he has escaped the most serious charge he was facing.

When NY Giants kicker Aldrick Rosas was arrested back in June for crazy hit and run while driving on a suspended license charge, it seemed like all but a formality that he would eventually – if not right away – be charged with a DUI in addition to those two misdemeanors.

However, through “luck” or a “loophole”, however you want to look at it, Rosas has in fact not been charged with that DUI.

Officially, he is being charged with three misdemeanors as a formal charge of reckless driving was added to his case.

While DUI’s vary between being misdemeanors and felonies between states depending on the number of prior DUI’s and the damage caused in the accident, it seemed likely that Rosas would be charged with one due to him running away from the accident – barefoot – and evading responsibility, while also being convicted of a DUI back in 2016.

The kicker was reportedly swerving over the yellow lines and speeding through a red light at about 100 MPH before T-Boning a Ford pickup truck. It’s truly a miracle that no one was seriously injured, and Rosas has gotten as lucky as one can be in this type of situation in terms of that and his formal charge outcome.

After running away from the accident with no shoes on, the police went looking for him at his home address with no luck. Eventually, three and a half hours later when they were returning from his home to go back to the scene of the crime, they found Rosas about a mile and a half away from the scene with bloody feet from walking all that way with no shoes on.

At that point, for some reason, no breathalyzer or sobriety test was administered.

I’m no legal expert – although I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night – but it’s likely that’s because legally he was nowhere near the crash when they found him and the cops probably figured the alcohol would be mostly out of his system by then anyway.

So even though police and any reasonable person suspect alcohol was the main factor in the crash, the former All-Pro kicker unintentionally found a loophole to get away with the most serious charge that would have had the best chance of getting him released.

To say it will be interesting to see what the NY Giants do from here is an understatement, as even though Rosas has a prior DUI and clearly appears to have done it again, he is only being charged with three misdemeanors at the end of the day.

In a normal situation, an NFL player would likely not be released based on those charges.

And then comes the whole football aspect of Aldrick Rosas staying with the NY Giants, as after an All-Pro year in 2018 he flopped in 2019 only to receive a one-year restricted free agent tender for about $3M.

We’ll keep you posted as more developments come in.
