Should the NY Giants retain Aldrick Rosas after formal charges?

So, should the NY Giants keep him or what?

For a variety of reasons, I do believe the NY Giants should give the 25-year-old kicker a second (or third, depending on how you look at it) chance and allow him the opportunity to prove himself as he was originally given when he signed his RFA tender earlier in the off-season before this incident.

The main factor in my reasoning is that young, All-Pro kickers don’t grow on trees. In addition, young kids make mistakes, and how many times have we seen athletes make mistakes early on in their lives/careers only to never have anything flare-up, sometimes turning into model citizens.

Additionally, this team is in a rebuild and bringing in an older kicker to hold the spot while the team looks for a new kicker of the future makes little sense. To me, kicker is an extremely underrated position as the fates of so many games end with them.

The NY Giants should take the opposite reaction to releasing him and rally around him, get him any help he needs, and show the other players that the front office has compassion in the right circumstances.

Now, that’s not to say a precedent should be set that any player will be kept if they get into trouble, I just don’t believe the end result formal charges are bad enough to part with a promising young kicker on a rebuilding team.

For what it’s worth, on a @GMENHQ Twitter poll ran yesterday, 55% of NY Giants fans think the team should in fact cut Rosas.

I do think it would be more than fair to bring in serious competition for Rosas in camp due to this incident and his recent play, but I just put his level of crime on the same level as say, DeAndre Baker.

But that’s a story for a different day.
