DeAndre Baker still somehow planning on attending NY Giants camp

Despite being embattled in a crazy legal mess, cornerback DeAndre Baker is still making plans is if he will be attending NY Giants training camp.

Okay, who’s gonna tell him? There is no way that rookie NY Giants head coach allows DeAndre Baker to step foot on Quest Diagnostics Field for 2020 training camp – or any other part of the Big Blue facility – while he has this very serious legal case going on.

Heck, even before this latest round of new allegations that appear to have sunken any chance of Baker beating this case came out, there was little chance the second-year player was going to have anything to do with the 2020 NY Giants.

Now, there’s no chance he’ll be allowed near training camp and likely regular-season action, although it is weird that the team has not reached out and told him this by now like they did immediately when it came to staying away from offseason zoom meetings.

According to the NY Post, DeAndre Baker has reported to Broward County Authorities – as he is legally required – that he will be traveling north to New Jersey to attend training camp AKA work, which he is allowed to leave the state of Florida for.

I hope Baker got refundable plane tickets, but after seeing how foolishly he and his legal team have handled this case in the public eye, I doubt he did.

Even though the NY Giants are likely and rightly very upset with the former first-round pick, the right thing to do by Baker, and more importantly the fans, would have been to come out and address this in a more timely fashion.

It’s now Saturday morning, and the team has still not informed Baker that he will not be allowed at training camp.

Maybe Judge will make him fly all the way up, take a COVID test and then suspend him — that would be cold.

But, unless Joe Judge and Dave Gettleman are the complete opposite of the men they’ve sold themselves to us as, there is zero chance Baker is allowed at camp, and even if he was he’d be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list so fast your head would spin.

What about Aldrick Rosas attending NY Giants camp?

Aldrick Rosas has also not been told to stay away from NY Giants training camp, which officially starts Sunday with the first round of COVID testing before the players take the field on Tuesday.

Dealing with less serious charges in the public eye – although he could have easily killed multiple people – Rosas has a much better chance at sticking with Big Blue.

The fact that neither has been informed of their status is even worse news for Baker as the team just probably has a set time this weekend to inform those that will not be welcome (for cuts or change of heart due to the roster reduction).
