2.  OT Matt Peart

Unlike Andrew Thomas, Matt Peart out of UConn wasn’t drafted with high expectations early on. Given Nate Solder opting out however, the possibility of having Solder and Thomas as bookends has now gone out the window.

Offensive lineman Nick Gates could be the starter at right tackle, but it’s also possible that the Giants want to roll with him at center. Gates just got a contract extension that likely sets him as a starter on the offensive line, the question is just where he’ll be situated along the line.

One possibility is to have Nick Gates at center and Matt Peart at right tackle. The biggest issue there is whether or not Matt Peart will be ready to play from day one. Options are limited for the New York Giants and throwing a mid-round pick out into that rough schedule to start the year could spell disaster for the entire offense.

Peart missing valuable preseason time piles onto the issues with Andrew Thomas as well. Perhaps the best offensive line would feature Thomas, Will Hernandez, Shane Lemieux, Kevin Zeitler, and Gates, but without a legitimate preseason against other NFL talent, neither Gates nor Lemieux can prove themselves.
