NY Giants: Major WR injury will shake up depth chart in a big way
How does this affect the NY Giants’ WR depth chart?
Now, here’s where the fun can begin for the NY Giants in my opinion.
Although Dave Gettleman clearly had affection for Cody Core and his perceived special teams prowess, he clearly proved during his three years in Cincinnati (where he only caught 59 balls) and last year with Big Blue that he is no type of receiving threat.
So even though in the end it isn’t Gettleman’s decision, it’s been taken out of his hands now and we’ll now have a WR Core (pun intended) full of wideouts that can actually play the position and make an impact.
Particularly, its terrific news for the undrafted ‘Big 3’ of NY Giants WR’s, as this ups all of their chances to make the squad, especially when you add in the fact that David Sills is dealing with a COVID situation.
Again, you never want to see a player go down, but if there ever was a situation where you would be okay with it for the good of the franchise it would be this one. Instead of missing out on a potential diamond in the rough UDFA like 6’4” wideout Binjimen Victor, the team may now be able to hang on to him as a result and who knows, maybe he turns out to be a player; him or any of the other young wideouts looking for a spot on the NY Giants.
Either way, the wideout competition from spots 3-5 or 6 just opened right up as Core was guaranteed one of those spots.
Let’s see which couple of these young, talented wideouts can step up and impress in camp to earn one of those roles.
