During NY Giants training camp, star runningback Saquon Barkley is still having trouble with his biggest personal flaw on the field.

Saquon Barkley has dazzled all since he entered the league two years ago with the NY Giants, but his biggest flaw has continued to be exposed during training camp sounding a serious alarm.

When Big Blue brought it veteran ‘back Dion Lewis this offseason is didn’t make major waves, but no mistake about it, Saquon Barkley’s struggles in pass protection were the root of that signing.

According to the NY Daily News, those struggles have continued to manifest, and Lewis has already begun to take snaps away from the superstar on third down and practice — you can expect that trend to continue as competition heats up.

Dion Lewis has long been one the best players on third down in the NFL despite his small stature as that hasn’t gotten in the way of being a safeguard on third down for the Titans and Patriots during his career.

During his rookie year, Barkley was able to somewhat hide is trouble with pass protection, but Pat Shurmur was not the man to coach him up on these issues. Someone like Saquon Barkley was too far along the food chain to press at practice and that wasn’t Shurmur’s style.

New head coach Joe Judge had already proven that no one is above his ire, and that seems to especially rang true during training camp as it almost seemed like he’s trying to make an example on purpose.

Could Saquon Barkley actually lose real snaps?

This is the million-dollar question, and everything Joe Judge has shown to so far point to this becoming big trouble if it isn’t ripped out root and stem.

From what I’ve seen, Joe Judge will have no problem to continue a player held in the regard that Barkley is as the rookie head coach has already set a clear example that no player will be above the high standards he is setting.

Quarterback Daniel Jones already has his issues with ball security and he certainly shouldn’t be worrying about if the #2 pick in the 2018 overall draft is going to have his back on pass protection or not.

I may be in the minority on this issue and I know it is very hard to criticize a player like Saquon Barkley but his issues in press protection seem to be effort-related.

Next. Giants rookie already making waves during training camp. dark

New runningbacks coach, Burton Burns, should be able to a godsend in coaching up Barkley on this issue and there is still plenty of time to fix it before the season starts and the young superstar has to begin looking over his shoulder for practice reps.

Let’s hope it never gets to that point.
