NY Giants rookie head coach has set the tone for how training camp is going to go right out of the gates and doesn’t plan to slow things down in the upcoming weeks.
Head coach Joe Judge has made major waves around the league during his rookie season as NY Giants and you can expect more of the season in the upcoming weeks.
Big Blue ended up practicing in full pads for 4/5 of their weekly practices and ended the week with the first of what will be two intrasquad scrimmages.
According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, the young coach plans to ramp things right back up to that level in the near future once he gets the go-ahead from team trainers and strength coaches.
The rookie coach has made it clear that no player will be above his wrath or critique, going so far as to chew out franchise runningback Saquon Barkley in front of the entire team.
Franchise QB Daniel Jones had a solid first week or practice, routinely making big plays with some smaller name wideouts who are hoping to make the back end of the roster.
Two youngsters making their mark early on in camp
This isn’t the most perfect season for a UDFA to be able to make their mark and end up making the 55* man roster out of an abbreviated training camp, but Javon Leake and Binjimen Victor are looking to buck that trend and both have a decent shot at making the initial NY Giants team.
Special teams ace and part-time (to be generous) wideout Cody Core going down with a torn Achilles tendon opened the door for a guy like the 6’4” wideout Binjimen Victor to be able to make the back end of the roster, especially if he shows he can hold his own on special teams.
The Big Blue offense does not have anyone that rivals the size of Victor which makes him a very intriguing prospect as Daniel Jones is going to need a big-bodied wideout to round out his versatile receiving corps.
Javon Leake could finally be the return guy we’ve all been craving around here for quite some time, and he even has a legit shot to unseat Wayne Gallman for the third runningback spot.
All reports have blended themselves to Leake being extremely impressive during the early portions of camp and he has a real chance to earn that return spot while taking the snaps as the third runningback.
He’s a guy that plays much faster than his 40 time and averaged almost 8 yards a touch during his stellar career at Maryland.
If the NY Giants were able to finally find the big-bodied wideout they’ve been missing and a bonafide return man – both from the ranks of the undrafted – this abbreviated training camp would have to be considered a resounding success.
