As camp has progressed, the NY Giants wideout group has had amongst the fiercest battles for roster spots on the team; does David Sills V have a chance?

Its been a while since the NY Giants have had a legit big-bodied wide receiver threat on offense, which is a major reason why I’ve been so steadfast on my feelings about the team needing to find at least one of those type of players this offseason.

So far, David Sills V has begun to seperte himself from UDFA Binjimen Victor, as both 6’4” receivers are seemingly battling for the #5 job as a red zone threat now that Corey Coleman has begun to take a stronghold on the WR4 job.

If you listen to quarterback Daniel Jones, Sills V is a player tha the NY Giants should take a hard look at to make the final roster. When asked about the former high school and college QB, now converted wideout, Jones flatly said, ” He’s a guy out there you can trust.”

In Daniel Jones language, that’s an emphatic endorsement.

Can David Sills V be the red-zone machine thae NY Giants are lacking?

In short, yes. Over his past two seasons at West Virginia after just making the move to WR for the first time in his life, David Sills V reeled in 33 touchdowns in 24 games, including leading the entire NCAA with 18 in 2017; that’s production that this NY Giants wideout group could really use.

Daniel Jones already has three top targets that can matriculate the ball down the field, but outside of Evan Engram, once the offense gets into the red zone he’ll have a much harder time — especially if new offensive coordinator continues to run the amount of fades he ran in Dallas.

Garrett has always favored having bigger wideouts on the field, so you’ve got to believe either Sills V or Binjimen Victor are a lock to make the team — if I had it my way, I’d take them both.

Like I mentioned when discussing Wayne Gallman’s chances of making the 2020 NY Giants, young veterans have a huge advantage this season over UDFA’s. Even though Sills V has yet to make his mark in regular season action, he’s been through multiple training camps and preseason games which gives him the leg up on Victor.

For that reason, I’m predicting at this moment that he does in fact win that #5 job.

What Joe Judge chooses to do with the WR6 is anyone’s guess, and there’s also a small chance they only carry five, anyway.
