The NY Giants have looked awful in their first three games, and as a result, USA Today has dropped them to last place in their most recent power rankings.

Just when you thought this NY Giants season couldn’t get any worse, USA Today Sports has officially declared Big Blue as the worst team in the league in their most recent addition of their power rankings.

Yes, that means USA Today feels that even the lowly NY Jets are a better football team than the NY Giants at this juncture, and it’s hard to argue with based on what’s transpired on the field.

I’d have to think their most recent common opponent – the San Fransisco 49ers – and how the two teams fared against them at Metlife Stadium has a lot to do with their decision to put the Jets ahead of the G-Men.

The Jets didn’t fare well against the 49ers either, but they at least played some of the game against San Fransisco with their best players on the field as most of the 49ers’ injuries occurred during their game against the Jets in Week 2.

That includes quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who stayed in the game long enough to carve up the Jets’ defense to the tune of 14/16 for 131 yards and 2 TD’s which amounted to an almost perfect 99.6 QBR (the most important stat that only goes up to 100)) and a 140.4 QB rating.

Running backs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman also played a significant portion of the game, ripping the Jets’ run ‘D’ apart for 182 yards on 29 carries and 2 TD’s.

None of those players were active for the NY Giants’ putrid 36-9 loss that came in essence against the 49ers’ JV team in what should be considered the worst loss of the Dave Gettleman era which is really saying something.

The Jets and Giants are ranked dead last back-to-back on offense in points scored and yards gained, so it’s really like splitting hairs to try to figure out who is actually worse.

It still is puzzling to see the Jets ranked ahead of the NY Giants as their defense hasn’t been as ‘good’ as Big Blue’s as the Gang Green unit currently ranks 27th in points allowed while Big Blue’s ranks 17th.

Furthermore, the Jets were lambasted in Week 3 themselves against the Colts by a score of 36-9.

Clearly, people around the NFL have almost no respect for the NY Giants now that Daniel Jones has seemingly regressed and Saquon Barkley has gone down with a torn ACL.

The three teams ranked directly above the abysmal NY football teams – the Broncos, Eagles, and the Washington Football team (I will never get used to that) all either have wins under their belts of have suffered multiple injuries themselves making it hard to argue that either team should be ranked ahead of any of them.

At this point, it’s going to be a long season around these parts and the NY Jets and NY Giants just might end up fighting for the right to pick #1 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft at this rate.
