Round 2, pick No. 35: Asante Samuel Jr., CB, Florida State

The Giants desperately need playmakers in the secondary, particularly in an era where passing the passing game drives the NFL’s elite offenses; enter, Florida State’s Asante Samuel Jr.

According to PFF, Samuel played 469 snaps in coverage last season and only allowed two touchdowns while breaking up nine passes.

He’s elevated his game this season:

Samuel, 5-foot-10 and 184 pounds, has the length defensive coordinators covet, and through two-plus seasons has already produced 83 total tackles, 26 pass breakups, and four interceptions.

The Giants have an elite ballhawk, tailor-made for coordinator Patrick Graham’s system, in veteran James Bradberry, but adding Samuel has the chance to take the entire defense to another level.
