Round 4 pick, CB – Darnay Holmes

Holmes, a confident cornerback out of UCLA, flashed plenty of athleticism, ball-skills, and physicality during training camp that inspired confidence he might finally stabilize the Giants’ revolving door at nickel cornerback.

Very little of that has translated to the first-five games.

Quarterbacks have frequently found Holmes pre-snap and targeted him. Opposing quarterbacks have a 98.5 passer rating when targeting him and wide receivers are averaging 11.3 yards per reception.

Sunday, though, Holmes saw his most extensive playing time of the season, appearing in a season-high 50 defensive snaps while breaking up two passes, producing three tackles and recording a quarterback hit.

Perhaps Holmes is rounding a corner and his strong showing against the Cowboys could be a harbinger of things to come.
